The ‘Peregian Beach recreation area’ was developed by T.M. Burke Pty. Ltd. as part of a total $140,000.00 (1966 values) ‘Peregian Promotion Project’ and commenced in late 1963. This project aimed to provide more amenities at Peregian Beach and by 1965 the work included a wading and swimming pool (opened 1964), caravan park, car park, bitumen roads, electricity and water supply and a sewerage scheme for the main shopping area.

The recreation area (on the western side of the David Low Way) included a shaded picnic area, a full-sized sports oval with a concrete pitch and two dual floodlit tennis courts, completed in 1965.

The official opening day (31 October 1965) was a gala occasion included a tennis tournament by members of the Maroochy Tennis Association and an inter-club cricket match on the new oval. There were stalls and novelty events , with Councillors from both the Noosa and Maroochy Shires attending as invited guests.

Councillor Ian MacDonald, the then Chairman of the Noosa Shire Council  officially opened the picnic area and sports oval while D.A. Low, M.L.A., officially opened the tennis courts.
