Right next door to our club, the construction of the new Peregian Beach Community House is underway with Ri-Con Contractors – to be completed by about September 2020.
First up, the existing car park next to the club (the site of the new building) will be replaced by 23 new overflow carpark spaces beside Di Hurst oval, as the first part of the project. Players can also utilise the existing community house/digital hub parking which is very close to the club.
The new house will have a Shower & toilet facilities on ground level for access by our players/members – we may convert solely to these in the future if our clubhouse facilities are closed with age.
The new community house is a major part of Stage 3 (of the Rufous Street project) which also includes 23 new overflow carpark spaces beside Di Hurst oval (first part of the project) and landscaping to the open greenspace.
For those of you who like to know about the numbers: The Rufous Street precinct investment over the past 5 years is $10.2M of Council, State and Federal Government funds. This includes: 2014-15 Land purchase and site preparations at a cost of $1M;2016-2018 Masterplan for Rufous Street precinct, design and construction of Rufous Street, Digital Hub and car parking at a cost of $4M;2019-2020 Planning/Design/Construction of New Community House, Digital Hub expansion, extra car-parking & greenspace at a cost of $5.2M.
What does the Peregian Beach Community House do? This not-for-profit community-focused facility is a meeting spot for the community, with an array of services and activities to cater for residents and visitors.
Activities include markets, concerts, meditation, yoga, workshops, a jewellery school, Weight Watchers, Qigong, Choir, Social Support groups, dance, and much more. Organisations can also hire the venue for their events or projects. See their website for more info.
