Winter 2021 news

Hello members,
Your renewals are out soon & you’ll be happy to hear rates remain the same at single $120/family $190. Our club is renowned as a welcoming, well-presented place which has undergone significant facilities upgrades recently, at no cost to members whatsoever.

Court 2-3 screening: You’ll also be pleased to hear we’re installing screens on north-facing sides of court 2 & 3 fences, to mitigate light & movement looking north to the hub/comm house.

Court lights: Troubleshooting with drivers/power issues continues but Suppliers are edging closer to solving LEDs probs. Part-sections of panels on Court 1/2 have now been disabled in the interim, but are not expected to impact play.

Sadly, we recently farewelled Peter Berbakov (known to many of us as Peter the pilot, pictured above, centre) who passed away on May 4.  Peter played in the Friday senior mens’ group as well as the Wednesday Night Comp for years. He loved his tennis & as a popular, very social member of his groups, always had a story to tell & will be missed by many. Our thoughts are with Peter’s wife Yai, children Melanie & Peter & family.

Members, we really need a couple of you to put up your hands. Our club’s success comes down to the combo of a great court manager working seamlessly with a small volunteer team. Our CM co-ordinates all tennis & runs things smoothly day-to-day, massively reducing volunteer load so these roles are hardly onerous! It’s simply that the club needs just 2-3 of you to step onto the committee/facilities side of things. First & foremost, a Secretary for meetings/minutes, newsletters/website – about an hour a week. Second: A president to continue to foster our connections & ensure facilities are top-notch. Third, a treasurer to support our CM, min work. This is a stellar time for you to jump onto committee, with a club in great financial shape and all much-needed improvements already done over the last five years at no next-to-no-cost thanks to grant success & free labour. Chat to Kim/Andrew before our Aug AGM as roles need to be filled then. If not you, then who?

Community House progress: The main level is underway, with the house is due for completion by October. Part of a $10 mill injection into the Rufous Street precinct, helped by State/Fed Gov, this last stage includes the new house, 4000m2 of greenspace, play area & winding footpaths. Want to know more? Remember your free online Defib training – link below. As you know, our club has its own Defib upstairs in kitchen area & once again encourage you to go to the free training link below for Lifeline View AEDAll groups have people with keys & any member is welcome to a key, just ask our CM.

See you on court soon,
Kim – Club Pres & Andrew – Court Manager
