Bowls-club-site bought by council – Dec 2014

November 2014 – Noosa council buys the recreation-zoned Bowls Club site!    Yes, it’s happened. Council’s signed a contract, settling in early December. They’ll work with the community via forums to glean opinion about the site’s future. So, tennis players & supporters, pitch your ideas as the chance arises – this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.  Any sport facility needs to demonstrate wide community support & demand (eg: for the likes of multi-functional tennis/volleyball hard courts).  It’s likely the old building right next door to the club will go – so the face of the site really will be changing soon.

July 2014:  Council is looking at ways to secure the site for community recreational purposes. There are no official council decisions yet, but the mayor has indicated if a reasonable sale price matches independent valuations, the sale may go ahead.  I’ll certainly update you as we find out more!

June 2014: Multi Span has withdrawn from the shopping-centre court appeal, which was set for a June hearing in the Planning and Environment Court. The PBCA, as a Co-respondent in the case, was fighting to keep the recreation-zoned space on behalf of the community. Now the developer has withdrawn their application, donations from the community (to cover the court costs) will be held in trust by the PBCA for investing in the future of the site.

Council is exploring all opportunities to acquire the site (which is privately owned and zoned open space recreation). Exciting possibilities lie ahead, and a concept plan including Peregian’s foreshore and recreation-zoned space is underway, to be released by Noosa council soon for community consultation.[/text_output][/vc_column][/vc_row]
